Every year the Greater Atlanta Chapters of the International Special Events Society (ISES) and the National Association of Catering Executives (NACE) produce the Allie Awards. The Allies are not only about recognition, but also about driving the industry to reach further, try harder and continually push to improve the quality in every part of the process.
In 1988, when Tim Lundy, CSEP, first envisioned the Allie Awards, those were the guiding principles he had in mind. He knew the city of Atlanta was fast becoming one of the stars of the event industry and wanted to create a platform for the local event industry to not only showcase their talents, but also drive them to produce events that could compete on national and even global levels.
Yesterday, GEP Destination Management’s own Sarah Ackerman received the Tim Lundy, CSEP – Rising Star Award. The spirit and intent of this award is designed to honor, recognize, encourage and inspire a young event professional toward his/her greatest potential in the special events industry. Sarah graduated from the North Central College with a B.A. in Marketing and Finance, and attended Arizona State University to pursue a Masters in Recreation and Tourism. After graduate school she started her career in tourism at the Oshkosh Convention and Visitors Bureau then found her way Atlanta where she continued Bureau life at the Atlanta CVB in the Tradeshow Sales Department. She joined the GEP Destination Management team in 2010 as a Creative Services Coordinator and progressed to Digital Media and Manager. She now handles the Destinations Download, website and social media for all nine GEP Destination Management locations across the US and Bahamas.
